A Special Criminal Court convicted YZ, Alan O’Brien and Darren Redmond of falsely imprisoning and intentionally causing serious harm to Kevin Lunney, with the verdict reported on 9 November 2021.

The offences happened at Drumbrade, Ballinagh, County Cavan, on 17 September 2019, according to the court’s findings.

Luke O’Reilly was found not guilty of falsely imprisoning and assaulting Lunney, while sentencing for the three convicted men was listed for 22 November 2021.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt rejected the defence suggestion that Lunney’s DNA had been planted in a Renault Kangoo van, finding the missed stain resulted from oversight.
