Alan Harte, Alan O'Brien and Darren Redmond appeal kidnapping convictions

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Alan Harte, Alan O'Brien and Darren Redmond had their appeals against convictions for kidnapping and torture adjourned for three months before the Court of Appeal, reported on 18 December 2024.

The appeals challenged the admission of DNA evidence from a burned van, phone records and CCTV footage. The appellants argued that the evidence was legally inadmissible and that witnesses from a voir dire hearing should have been recalled to testify under fresh oaths. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy said, on behalf of the three-judge court, that the case would not finish as scheduled.
