Thomas Thompson was given a fully suspended two-year sentence after pleading guilty to burglary at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The court heard that he entered a Dollymount home through an unlocked back door after its owner’s teenage son said she was asleep. Thompson scuffled with the son and claimed he had a knife, though no weapon was produced.
The judge said burglary disturbs a home’s occupants’ peace of mind. He suspended the sentence on condition that Thompson stay at least one kilometre from the victim’s home. The court also heard that Thompson had post-traumatic stress disorder following his childhood experience as a victim of the Dublin bombings, and had stopped congregating in the area.
