Thomas Rooney was jailed for six years for money laundering at the Special Criminal Court, with the sentence passed on 14 January 2022.
Rooney, of Betaghstown, Bettystown, Co Meath, pleaded guilty to possessing the proceeds of crime in three cash holdings found in Drogheda on 11 May 2020.
The court set a 10-year pre-mitigation term, reduced it for his guilty plea, cooperation and lack of relevant previous convictions, then removed a further year for his poor health.
The six-year sentence was backdated to 6 December 2021. The court also ordered the seized money forfeited to the State; a separate dispute over a Mercedes remained for a later hearing.
