Uisce Éireann admits condition of Louth green area ‘did not meet expected standards’

Uisce Éireann has admitted that a green area at Yellowbatter in Drogheda, which was described as a “mud pit”, failed to meet expected standards during ongoing water main upgrade works.
The utility company was responding to complaints raised over the Easter weekend regarding the condition of the green area as essential water main and service connection upgrade works continue at the location.
In a statement, Uisce Éireann confirmed that an “immediate review” of the site was carried out by the project team.
“We acknowledge that the condition of the area over the weekend did not meet expected standards, and we regret the inconvenience and concern this caused for the local residents,” the statement said.
“Uisce Éireann is committed to maintaining worksites to an appropriate standard throughout the duration of projects.”
Louth Senator Alison Comyn said she had been inundated with complaints from residents, describing the green area as having been turned into a “mud pit” during the works.
In response to the concerns, Uisce Éireann said: “Although works at Yellowbatter are still underway, crews returned to site immediately after the Easter weekend to address the issues identified and to complete temporary reinstatement works,” the company said.
Uisce Éireann explained that temporary reinstatement is carried out while works are ongoing, with permanent reinstatement completed once the project is finished.
“Crews will continue to monitor the area to ensure reinstatement works are progressed in line with expected standards and in accordance with the Road Opening licence conditioned by Louth road authority,” the statement added.
The company said timelines for both temporary and permanent reinstatement remain subject to suitable weather conditions and noted that additional works, unrelated to the water upgrade scheme, are also taking place in the area.
“Once again, we regret the inconvenience and concern caused to residents and would like to reassure the local community that the matters raised are being addressed and that works on site are continuing,” the statement concluded.
