Thomas Fox, Regina Keogh and Jonathan Keogh were on trial accused of murder at the Special Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 13 June 2018.
Gareth Hutch was shot dead outside Avondale House flats on North Cumberland Street, Dublin, on 24 May 2016.
All three accused pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Hutch. Thomas Fox also denied unlawfully possessing a Makarov 9mm handgun at the same place on 23 May 2016.
The prosecution alleged that the killing was planned and that each accused had a role in bringing about Mr Hutch’s death.
Protected witness Mary McDonnell identified Jonathan Keogh in CCTV footage as one of the gunmen. She had been charged with withholding information on 30 May 2016; the charge was withdrawn on 15 February 2017, and she was given immunity from prosecution in May 2018.
In cross-examination, Jonathan Keogh’s counsel suggested that gardaí had made Ms McDonnell feel unsafe in her home and made clear that Mr Keogh was a threat to her and her children. She said this had made her uncomfortable and agreed that gardaí had told her that if Mr Hutch was expendable, so was she.
The trial was continuing before Mr Justice Tony Hunt, presiding, with Judge Patricia Ryan and Judge Michael Walsh.
