A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to three years in detention for the rape and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl he had dated. The judge suspended the final 21 months, leaving 15 months to be served in Oberstown detention centre. The boy was convicted after a Central Criminal Court trial of three charges of oral rape and one of rape; the offending was found to have occurred when he was 14, between June and July 2023.
The judge also placed him under Probation Service supervision for three years after release, ordered him to comply with its directions, imposed a three-year sex offenders’ register requirement and prohibited contact with the girl. The boy continues to deny the offending and does not accept the jury’s verdicts, his counsel told the court.
