Tadhg O'Dalaigh had his conviction for indecently assaulting a schoolboy quashed by the Court of Appeal on 22 May 2017. The alleged assault occurred at a boarding school in Carrignavar, Co Cork, in 1979.
O'Dalaigh had been convicted by a jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court and sentenced to five years in prison, with the final two years suspended, on 18 December 2014. The appeal court held that the trial judge had erred by refusing to warn the jury about convicting without corroborating evidence.
The court allowed the appeal and said it would later hear submissions on whether a retrial should be ordered. O'Dalaigh's barrister said he had served his sentence.
