Stephen O'Connor was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended in full on strict conditions, for theft. The proceedings were reported on 24 July 2018.
O'Connor pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to thefts of €4,890 and €7,590 from G4S Cash Services Ltd. The thefts occurred on 31 October and 2 November 2017.
The thefts involved two bags of cash taken while O'Connor worked for G4S. The report said he stole the money to pay a drug debt. Judge Karen O'Connor said his original €4,000 cocaine debt had been increased to €6,000, but that the debt was no defence or excuse for his criminality.
The judge noted that G4S had been repaid with the help of a bank loan taken out by O'Connor's mother, which he had to repay. O'Connor had no previous convictions and made immediate admissions, fully co-operating with the subsequent garda investigation.
