This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Stephen Duffy was resentenced to four years’ imprisonment, with the final three years suspended, for assault causing serious harm at the Court of Appeal, reported on 8 March 2022. The assault happened on Belgard Road, Tallaght, on 29 August 2016.

The appeal court quashed Duffy’s original wholly suspended four-year sentence after finding that the sentencing judge had erred in principle. Duffy was taken into custody after the new sentence was imposed.

Duffy had pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm to Darren Darley, whom he had not previously met. The report says Darley suffered a traumatic brain injury and required life-saving surgery after the blow.
