Stephen Carberry admits helping offender impede prosecution

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Stephen Carberry pleaded guilty to assisting an offender at the Special Criminal Court on 1 December 2025.

The charge concerned an act intended to impede the apprehension or prosecution of a person he knew or believed guilty of Keane Mulready Woods’ murder or another arrestable offence.

The prosecution said the act involved participating in or contributing to transporting and disposing of the teenager’s body parts; this was not particularised in the charge.

The DPP said it would discontinue the two remaining charges, including one concerning disposal of body parts to benefit a criminal organisation and another concerning a burned car.

The court directed a victim impact statement and remanded Carberry in custody until 19 January; his previously fixed trial date could be vacated.
