Stephen Cahoon found guilty of murder at Central Criminal Court

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Stephen Cahoon was found guilty of murder at the Central Criminal Court on 3 December 2015.

The unanimous verdict concerned the killing of Jean Teresa Quigley at Cornshell fields in Derry on 26 July 2008.

Cahoon had admitted strangling Ms Quigley, who was pregnant, but denied that the killing was murder. It was his third trial after an earlier jury failed to reach a verdict and a previous conviction was quashed on appeal because of a misdirection about provocation.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
