Shaun Kelly received a fully suspended one-year sentence for careless driving causing death at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 March 2024.
The offence happened on South Great George Street in Dublin, where Kelly’s pickup struck Alicia Guilleux and her partner as they crossed while holding hands. Guilleux died in hospital two days later.
Judge Martin Nolan said Kelly had been inattentive but had not been driving at great speed or under the influence of intoxicants. He cited Kelly’s guilty plea, co-operation and lack of previous convictions in mitigation.
The judge also disqualified Kelly from driving for one year. He deferred the separate drugs offence decision until 12 March 2024.
