This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sean Leahy was acquitted of breaking Covid lockdown laws at Dublin District Court, in an outcome reported on 3 March 2023. The charge arose from his arrest while filming a 1916 Rising commemoration at Dublin’s GPO on 4 April 2021.

Leahy, owner of the Dublin City Today YouTube channel, pleaded not guilty to breaching stay-at-home regulations under the Health Act. The court heard he had 723,000 subscribers and argued that his media work qualified for an exemption.

Judge John Hughes dismissed the case after finding the regulations contained an important media category and that Leahy had a reasonable excuse.
