This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sean FitzPatrick was on trial for allegedly making false statements to auditors at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 22 February 2017. The former Anglo Irish Bank chairman faced 27 charges under the Companies Act 1990, including 22 allegations of misleading, false or deceptive statements and five allegations of furnishing false information. He denied all charges.

Auditor Vincent Bergin told the court he was unaware of documents showing short-term loans had apparently been used to refinance borrowings from Anglo. He said the documents would have prompted follow-up questions and could have led to consideration of reporting obligations, governance issues or resignation as auditors. The trial continued before Judge John Aylmer and a jury.
