Seamus Marley fails to extend appeal over rape convictions

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Seamus Marley failed to extend his appeal against rape and sexual assault convictions at the Court of Appeal on 3 November 2022. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Central Criminal Court in May 2019 for sexually assaulting and raping two boys in Co Louth.

The court rejected Marley’s claim that an undisclosed agreement between the defence and prosecution justified allowing a late appeal. It found no evidential basis for his assertions and dismissed the application.

Marley had previously filed his appeal outside the required 28-day period. The dismissal was his second failed application for more time to appeal his convictions.
