Keith Malone was resentenced to four years’ imprisonment, with the final three months suspended for two years, by the Court of Appeal on 3 November 2022 for assault causing harm and producing an article. He stabbed his partner four times at her home in Athy, Co Kildare, on 6 January 2019, leaving her with injuries that included a damaged liver, collapsed lung and broken rib.
The appeal court set aside his earlier three-year sentence, which had included three months suspended for 12 months. It identified the offending as being at the highest end of the higher range and cited the breach of trust, use of a weapon and high level of intoxication as aggravating factors.
