Ruzmond Muwaniri was sentenced to four years in prison, with the final year suspended, for assaults at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 26 January 2023.
He had pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and causing her harm at St Stephen’s Green South on 1 February 2022, and to causing harm to two men in the same area the following day.
Judge Martin Nolan noted Muwaniri’s mental health difficulties, including a diagnosis of schizophrenia, and said his attacks were random when he was not taking medication. The report said the judge described the incidents as frightening for the three injured people.
Muwaniri had 80 previous convictions, including 16 for assault causing harm. The judge backdated the sentence to 2 February 2022, when Muwaniri went into custody, and ordered him to keep the peace for a year after release and follow Probation Services directions.
