The Respondent’s sentence for false imprisonment was increased by the Irish Court of Appeal, which imposed five and a half years’ imprisonment after quashing the original sentence. The proceedings were reported on 19 December 2024.

The original sentence was imposed by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 21 December 2022 for false imprisonment and assault causing harm. The false-imprisonment sentence was initially three years, backdated to 13 November 2022, while the assault sentence was taken into consideration.

The Respondent pleaded guilty on 2 October 2023. The appeal court substituted an eight-year headline sentence, reduced by two and a half years for mitigation and personal circumstances, producing the final five-and-a-half-year term. The assault causing harm count remained taken into consideration.
