Philip Dunbar loses appeal against murder conviction

Philip Dunbar’s murder conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal on 30 January 2024, when it dismissed all grounds of his appeal. He was convicted of murdering Adam 'Floater' Muldoon at the Central Criminal Court.
Dunbar’s lawyers argued that diminished responsibility should have been left to the jury because of a mental disorder linked to chronic drug use. The appeal court found the defence had no supporting expert opinion from a consultant psychiatrist that Dunbar had a mental disorder at the time of the murder.
He also challenged the use of CCTV, admissions made in garda interviews and evidence from a witness whose identity was protected by a court order. The court dismissed those grounds too.
