Peter Sheeran’s robbery sentence quashed on appeal

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Peter Sheeran had his sentence for robbery quashed by the Court of Appeal after a hearing on 4 November 2024. The robbery took place in Kilanerin, on the Wicklow-Wexford border.

The court found the five-year sentence, with the final year suspended, was disproportionate and excessive, and said a lower sentence may be more appropriate. It accepted that Sheeran had acted under duress, while also identifying premeditation and the harm caused to people affected by the robbery as aggravating factors.

The court requested a urine analysis in connection with Sheeran’s efforts to address addiction issues. He remained remanded in custody pending resentencing on 16 December 2024.
