Paula Reid avoided immediate imprisonment for 12 counts of theft at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, receiving 200 hours of community service instead of two years in jail on six counts and a two-year sentence suspended in full on the remaining six. The proceedings were reported on 18 May 2015.
The thefts occurred between June 2010 and September 2012 and totalled €4,790.97 from Hugh Burrows & Sons Ltd in Balbriggan. Reid pleaded guilty. The court was told she was dealing with a divorce and her son’s serious injury; she initially said the bank might have made a mistake, later admitted the thefts and repaid the money by bank draft. A further 53 alleged theft counts were not prosecuted.
