Paul Crosby has pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder, falsely imprisoning and causing serious harm to Gerard Boyle at Knockcommon, Beauparc, Slane, Co Meath, on 10 November 2016. He has also pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder Boyle later that day at Boyne Canal, Drogheda.

Boyle gave evidence at the Central Criminal Court on 26 January 2018. The proceedings were reported on 27 January 2018.

Boyle said Crosby stabbed him after he took over driving a car at Knockcommon. He said Crosby then told him to get into the boot, saying they would bring him to hospital. Boyle said he escaped from the boot after the car was driven away and swam to the bank when he found the car was in water.

Prosecuting counsel Patrick Gageby SC had told the jury that Boyle was stabbed 28 times that night. Boyle was hospitalised for about two weeks. Defence counsel Michael Bowman SC had begun cross-examining him, and the trial was continuing before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
