Green light for upgrade works at national school in Meath

Meath County Council has granted planning permission for a series of upgrade works at St Patrick’s National School in Slane, paving the way for energy efficiency improvements and much-needed modernisation of the historic site.
The project includes significant refurbishment of the Old School Building (Block A), which is a protected structure listed on both the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and the Local Authority’s Record of Protected Structures. Works here will see the replacement of aluminium windows and doors with timber designs reflecting the original style, new internal insulated wall linings on selected external walls, and the installation of ventilation hoods to improve classroom air quality.
Additional works will take place across other school buildings. These will feature replacing old windows, doors, glazed screens, and roofs with upgraded materials to match the existing designs, adding cavity wall insulation, and installing new ventilation systems in classrooms.
The site will also see a number of external upgrades. These include the installation of an LPG tank with secure screening, an air source heat pump, and an electric vehicle charging point with dual outlets.
A new 2.4-metre high pedestrian access gate will also be installed, designed to match the existing school fencing.
