The Disclosures Tribunal rejected retired Garda sergeant Paul Barry’s harassment complaints against senior officers, in a report reported on 25 March 2023. The tribunal found none of the officers named in his complaints and protected disclosures had targeted him.
The tribunal concluded that a request to check a medical certificate Barry submitted on returning to work did not amount to targeting. The certificate said he could work provided he did not attend Fermoy station or have contact with Superintendent Michael Comyns.
The tribunal also rejected Barry’s claims of targeting over a report on a fatal house fire, annual leave and Garda duties at the Irish Open. It said the inquiry into his bullying complaints had taken more than three and a half years but was complex, and those conducting it had other duties.
