Parnell Square attacker to be sentenced in November after guilty verdicts

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Riad Bouchaker will be sentenced on 16 November after being found guilty of attempting to murder three children and of stabbing childcare worker Leanne Flynn during the Parnell Square attack. He was also convicted of assaulting two other children and a teenager who intervened. Mr Justice Tony Hunt said he had a lot to think about before sentencing.

At the sentencing hearing, the court heard victim impact statements from family members and Alan Lorena Guille, who was 17 when he took the knife from Bouchaker. Defence counsel argued that Bouchaker’s mental capacity at the time of the attack and since should be taken into account. The court has not yet imposed a sentence.
