Noel Colvin was jailed for three years for assault causing harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 13 October 2022.

He pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and production of an article. The production count was taken into consideration.

The assault happened at Harbour Court, off Lower Abbey Street in Dublin city centre, on 14 August 2020. The report said Colvin approached Natasha Smith, who was homeless, and cut her face with a blade after she asked him to step back.

The court heard that Smith received 20 stitches and was left with facial scars. She said she did not know Colvin and described the attack as entirely unprovoked.

In mitigation, Luigi Rea said Colvin had been homeless and was suffering from alcohol addiction. Colvin apologised, was in temporary accommodation, and was working with the Peter McVerry Trust.

The probation report assessed Colvin as at high risk of reoffending, while Rea said he had taken steps to address issues raised by the Probation Service.
