Niall Byrne, Mark Farrelly, Christopher Corcoran and David Byrne pleaded not guilty to robbing Paul Richardson and Securicor of €2.28 million on 14 March 2005. They also pleaded not guilty to the false imprisonment of four members of the Richardson family at their home in Ashcroft, Raheny, Dublin, on 13 and 14 March 2005.

The proceedings at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court were reported on 30 January 2018. It was the first day of the trial, and Judge Melanie Greally told the jury it was a retrial.

Mr Richardson, a Securicor cash-in-transit driver, described returning home with his teenage son and being confronted by two armed men. He said a man pointed a handgun at his son's head while the boy was having a panic attack.

Mr Richardson said the man gave him instructions for the following morning. His wife and sons were taken from the house, and he said he was questioned during the night about his job while his family was repeatedly mentioned.

Mr Richardson was due to resume his evidence the following day. The trial was expected to last until mid-April.
