Nathan Killeen faced murder charge in Limerick trial

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Nathan Killeen faced a murder charge before the Special Criminal Court. The court’s judgment was delivered on 15 July 2014, with O'Malley J., Heneghan J. and Ryan J. listed as the judges. The case concerned the shooting of Roy Collins at the Coin Castle arcade in Limerick on 9 April 2009. The prosecution alleged that Nathan Killeen drove the vehicle that brought the gunman to the arcade and took him away after the shooting.

Lisa Collins gave evidence that Nathan Killeen told her he was going to shoot Steve Collins. However, the judgment said the civilian witnesses had, on the face of it, significant credibility issues. Each had either been involved in serious criminal activity or had close associations with people involved in it, and they had fallen out with the accused after previously being on personal terms with them. Counsel for each accused vigorously challenged the witnesses’ motivation and truthfulness.
