Nathan Killeen was denied further access to prison-call recordings in his murder appeal before the Court of Appeal, reported on 7 April 2016. He was convicted of murdering Limerick businessman Roy Collins after acting as the getaway driver and received a life sentence from the Special Criminal Court. The recordings concerned calls involving prosecution witnesses during the three-and-a-half years before his trial. The Court of Appeal said disclosure issues and any inadequacies in the process could be considered at the full appeal hearing.
Killeen’s counsel argued that the recordings undermined prosecution witnesses’ credibility and showed alleged collusion. The State opposed the application, but the court refused to order the further disclosure sought at that stage.
