Midnight Entertainment wins challenge over alcohol licence charge

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Midnight Entertainment Ltd won a High Court challenge over an alcohol-sales-without-a-licence prosecution on 28 March 2019.

The company, trading as Four Aces Casino in Galway, was prosecuted after alcohol was seized from its premises.

The High Court held that a reasonable person might view the case as involving the same party and charges before the same District Judge after an earlier conviction was overturned.

It granted the company’s requested relief, including an order quashing the District Judge’s refusal to recuse herself from hearing the trial.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
