Michael Lynn lost a legal challenge concerning alleged theft at the Court of Appeal on 31 May 2019. He is due to stand trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 21 counts involving almost €30 million allegedly taken from seven financial institutions.

The Court of Appeal rejected his arguments about assurances sought during his extradition from Brazil. Those assurances concerned credit for time spent in custody and a 30-year maximum sentence if he were found guilty.

The court also granted a recommendation for free legal aid. Lynn’s trial was expected to take place the following year.
