This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Byrne was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 17 February 2015. He had pleaded guilty to stealing a €50,000 cash box from a security van at Raheny Shopping Centre and robbing €1,700 worth of entertainment equipment from a teenager on the Dart.

The court heard that Byrne had taken tablets and heroin before the cash-in-transit robbery. Garda evidence said he struck a security worker, took the box and later made full admissions. Judge Nolan said both robberies were serious and well-planned, describing the robbery of the teenager as “nasty” while noting Byrne’s useful admissions.
