Mary Maughan was sentenced to four years in prison, with the final two years suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for assault causing harm, reported on 12 February 2015. The offence occurred at the Mill Shopping Centre in Clondalkin, Dublin, on 29 November 2011.

Maughan had pleaded guilty after slashing her sister-in-law during the shopping-centre incident. Judge Martin Nolan said the seriousness of the assault required custody and ordered Maughan to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for two years after her release.
