Chloe Dunne was given a two-year sentence, suspended in full on strict conditions, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. She pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis for sale or supply on Shancastle Avenue, Clondalkin, on July 26, 2023. The proceedings were reported on October 28, 2025.
Garda Brian O’Carroll told Jane Murphy BL, prosecuting, that Dunne was spotted using her phone while driving in Clondalkin at around 10pm that evening. Gardaí stopped her and found a bag containing 973 grammes of cannabis, with an estimated street value of €19,750, on the front passenger seat. Her two young children were in the back of the car.
Dunne admitted in interview that someone had placed the drugs in her car and that her role was to drop the bag at an address. She said she did not know the drugs’ value, was struggling for money and expected €300 or €400 for her role.
Dunne had no previous convictions. Garda O’Carroll agreed with Keith Spencer BL, defending, that she had not been on the garda radar at the time and had not come to garda attention since. He accepted that she was inexperienced, and she made immediate admissions.
Judge Martin Nolan said Dunne’s own actions had brought her to the attention of gardaí and described her conduct as a bad misjudgement. He accepted that she had succumbed to temptation because she needed money and acknowledged that she was unlikely to come to garda attention again.
