This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Mark McCarthy was sentenced to nine years for false imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 19 May 2017. The offence involved Warren and Jean Marie Nawn and their 10-week-old baby during a tiger kidnapping linked to Drogheda Post Office.

The court heard McCarthy helped hold the family hostage while Mr Nawn was forced to hand over €661,125. He had pleaded guilty, and the court heard he was acting under duress because of a drug debt and made no financial gain.

Judge Patricia Ryan acknowledged his early guilty plea, rehabilitation efforts and lack of financial benefit. His sentence was backdated to November 2013, when he was taken into custody.
