Lisa O'Hara gets suspended sentence for money laundering

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Lisa O'Hara received a two-year suspended sentence for money laundering at the Special Criminal Court on 30 July 2021. The offences involved cash linked to the Kinahan organised crime group and money handled through her home and accounts in Clondalkin, Dublin.

The court heard that O'Hara did not know where the money came from, but was reckless in failing to question her former partner, James Walsh. The couple had used crime proceeds towards a house deposit and building work, while Walsh was separately serving a firearms sentence.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the judges saw no logic in jailing O'Hara. She was employed, cared for a young child and had written to the court expressing remorse before being allowed to remain in the community under the suspended sentence.
