Liam Vickers was jailed for three years for sexual assault at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, with the sentence consecutive to a reactivated two-year term. The proceedings were reported on 6 December 2021.
Vickers pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman out running in a Dublin suburb in February 2021. The report said the assault occurred on 3 February, after he followed her through a park and grabbed her; Vickers later admitted the conduct and said it was sexually motivated.
The earlier case involved assault causing harm to a woman working as an escort in Dublin city centre on 30 September 2017. Vickers pleaded guilty and received a two-year suspended sentence from Judge Elma Sheahan in January 2021. A bond imposed on 22 January 2021 required him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for three years; that sentence was later reactivated.
Judge Sheahan took account of mitigation including Vickers’s traumatic childhood, co-operation on arrest, supportive family and stated wish to address psychological difficulties. Defence counsel Dean Kelly SC said Vickers recognised that he needed help; the report also records that he acknowledged the later assault was obviously sexually motivated.
