Liam Callaghan and Craig Johnston each received a two-year fully suspended sentence for assault causing harm and obstruction at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 27 January 2023. The offences were committed in Dublin city centre on 8 December 2019.

Judge Orla Crowe ordered both men to keep the peace for two years and directed that their €6,000 gesture of remorse be handed to the victim. The court was told the victim was willing to accept the money.

The judge said the injured man was blameless and that the assault had serious consequences for him. She said Callaghan threw the first punch and was more dominant during the attack, while Johnston joined in.
