Lawrence Mubango was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for using a stolen credit card machine. The sentence was ordered to run consecutively to the prison term he was already serving.
Mubango pleaded guilty to using the machine at Mary’s Pub on Wicklow Street, Dublin, on 6 September 2017. The proceedings were reported on 20 May 2020.
Detective Garda Eoin Kirwan told the court that the refund facility had been activated and €7,500 entered for a refund. CCTV footage showed Mubango taking the machine from behind the bar. The transaction was cancelled in time and the pub suffered no financial loss.
Mubango was serving a 10-year prison sentence for a knife attack on two friends on 17 May 2018. Judge Nolan said the three-month sentence would have been considerably longer if Mubango had not already been serving a sentence.
