Landlord says he was entitled to re-enter salon and change locks, High Court hears

The High Court heard that landlord Peter McLaughlin said he was entitled to re-enter a Greystones hair salon and change its locks during a rent dispute with operator Sinéad Connolly. In a sworn statement, McLaughlin said he had hired a security company and re-entered peaceably. The parties were in dispute over about €77,000 in rent arrears.
The court heard that McLaughlin was willing to arrange for Connolly to collect the salon’s possessions and equipment. Justice Senan Allen adjourned the case to later that week so Connolly could consider and respond, if she wished, to McLaughlin’s affidavit. The judge said any agreement for her to return to the premises for four weeks was a matter for the parties to discuss, rather than the court.
