Kieran Greene was found guilty of murdering Patricia O'Connor, his then partner's mother, in May 2017. He had denied the murder. The proceedings were reported on 25 February 2020.
Patricia O'Connor, who was 61, was found in 15 parts across nine locations in the Dublin mountains in June 2017. The court heard that Greene went to Rathfarnham Garda Station that month and was arrested after bringing gardaí to a shallow grave in Co Wexford. He said he had buried her there before returning, digging her up and cutting up her body.
Greene told gardaí that nobody else was involved in the murder. He said he had argued with Patricia O'Connor after she attacked him with a hurl in the bathroom of their Rathfarnham home.
In December 2017, Greene changed his account, saying he had agreed to take the blame for the murder and dismemberment but felt he had been set up. He alleged that Gus O'Connor had struck his wife with an iron bar or crowbar and that Keith Johnston had helped dismember her.
The jury heard that Gus O'Connor had already pleaded guilty to reporting his wife missing on 1 June 2017, knowing she was dead. Keith Johnston, Stephanie O'Connor and Louise O'Connor had pleaded not guilty to impeding Greene's apprehension or prosecution. Johnston denied assisting Greene in buying implements for concealment; Stephanie denied disguising herself as her grandmother to conceal her death; and Louise denied agreeing to or acquiescing in that. The jury was to resume deliberating on their cases.
