Kenneth Donohoe pleaded not guilty to murdering Eamon Kelly at the Special Criminal Court on 9 June 2021. The alleged killing took place on Furry Park Road in Killester, Dublin, on 4 December 2012.
The prosecution said its case against Donohoe and Darren Murphy relied on nine broad categories of circumstantial evidence, including CCTV, fingerprints, DNA and firearm residue. These were opening claims.
The State also said it expected evidence that Donohoe had made informal comments to gardaí suggesting he thought Kelly would be robbed rather than shot. Donohoe’s counsel said he denied making those comments, and questioned whether the prosecution would call that evidence.
Donohoe and Murphy were also charged with possessing a Glock pistol with intent to endanger life at the same place and time. Both pleaded not guilty to the murder and firearms counts.
