Four men accused of false imprisonment and assault in the Kevin Lunney case faced a challenge to mobile phone evidence at the Special Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 9 June 2021.

Defence lawyers challenged whether phone records gathered under Garda warrants could be admitted as evidence in the prosecution case.

Detective Garda Sharon Walsh said the Graham Dwyer judgment had affected the route used to obtain phone data; she could not recall where she first learned the previous route was no longer available.

Sergeant Lisa Murray agreed that a warrant incorrectly described a phone number connected to Mr Redmond as unregistered, although she knew the phone was registered to him. She said the error was an oversight and should have been corrected.

The trial was continuing.
