By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kenneth Cummins and Sabrina Cummins were on trial accused of murdering Thomas Horan, 63, at a senior citizens’ complex in January 2014. Both deny murder.

The proceedings were reported on 11 November 2015. The siblings are from Ringsend Park in Dublin 4. The report said two conflicting versions of what happened to Thomas Horan had emerged during their five-week trial.

Thomas Horan was well-known to Sabrina Cummins. During her evidence, she initially claimed she had gone to his home in Ringsend in Dublin after a row with her boyfriend, but later admitted going there for money.

Sabrina Cummins claimed that her brother, Kenneth Cummins, tried to suffocate Thomas Horan with a plastic bag before strangling him with a belt.

Kenneth Cummins gave a conflicting account to Gardai, accusing Sabrina Cummins of stabbing and poisoning Thomas Horan before banging his head against a shelf.

Jurors had been told to treat each case separately and to try to establish whether lies had been told or whether there was any corroboration. The report said they would soon begin their deliberations.
