Sabrina Cummins has been found guilty of murdering 63-year-old Thomas Horan in Dublin following jury deliberations lasting five hours and 12 minutes. The proceedings were reported on 17 November 2015.

Sabrina Cummins, 37, of Ringsend Park, Dublin 4, had pleaded not guilty to murder.

Thomas Horan was killed at Cambridge Court, Ringsend, on 6 January the previous year. The report described repeated blows to his head and 14 broken ribs. It said neck and chest injuries caused the asphyxia from which he died. The court also heard of an attempt to poison him using toilet cleaner, white spirits and washing up liquid.

Sabrina Cummins claimed her younger brother had tortured Thomas Horan, then beaten and strangled him to death. According to the report, each sibling blamed the other. Her brother Kenneth had changed his plea to guilty the previous week.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt called Thomas Horan’s death “horrific” and expressed his complete agreement with the jury’s verdict.

The report said both siblings would receive life sentences when they returned to court on Friday.
