Keith Brady pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder. The State rejected his plea, and he was on trial at the Central Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 22 November 2017.

The charges relate to the death of Martin ‘Matt’ Kivlehan at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo, on 2 or 3 August 2015.

Superintendent Jim Delaney said he considered the request for Brady to meet his sister in custody from a human rights point of view after she expressed concern for him. Garda Dan Grimes supervised the meeting at Sligo Garda Station on 5 August 2015 and said he heard most of their conversation, including her telling Brady to tell the truth.

The trial was continuing on 22 November 2017 before Justice Paul McDermott and a jury.
