This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Karl Fish was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court to four years after a jury convicted him in October of two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault involving his cousin. The offences occurred on the same date between November 1988 and November 1990, when the woman was aged between 14 and 15 and Fish was 16 or 17.

Fish pleaded not guilty to a number of sexual offences. At a sentence hearing last month, Justice Karen O'Connor set a headline sentence of 10 years for the rape offences, reduced it to five years because of Fish's age at the time, and reduced it again to four years because of the delay in prosecution. The proceedings were reported on 17 December 2025.

The report said Detective Garda Leslie McCormack agreed that Fish had a drug problem as a younger man and accepted that he had abided by his bail conditions and cooperated with the garda investigation. Defence counsel Dominic McGinn SC also asked the court to consider Fish's age when offending and the delay before prosecution, and said Fish had since led a law-abiding and constructive life.
