Kamal Kumar Nepali was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, with the final year suspended, at the Central Criminal Court on 11 March 2024 for raping a woman in her Cork home.

The judge described the rape as predatory and said it occurred in the victim’s bedroom while she slept. He cited physical violence and the violation of her home’s safety as aggravating factors.

The judge took account of Nepali’s lack of previous convictions and character references. He also ordered no contact with the victim for an indefinite period.

Nepali’s defence counsel indicated an intention to appeal. On 26 March 2024, the Irish Examiner reported that he had lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence.
