An unnamed Offaly man was jailed for rape and sexual abuse at the Central Criminal Court on 11 March 2024, receiving 10 years and nine months with the final nine months suspended.

The man had pleaded guilty to 27 charges, including oral rape, anal rape and sexual assaults against his partner’s son, who was aged between 10 and 14 during the abuse from 2015 to 2019.

The judge also ordered five years of post-release supervision. The abuse took place at 11 locations in Offaly and Westmeath, including the victim’s home, a boat and other vehicles.
